Purpose of icons at bottom of flashcard?

Love this app!
I currently have about 10 verses in my Due category. When I click on a verse to open it, I see three icons at the bottom of the page: a left arrow, a button with a finger touching it, and a right arrow. But these icons are always grayed out. They look like they'd allow me to move back and forth between verses, which would be handy. I'm not sure what the center button would do.
How do I make these icons active?
Also, it might be nice to add tooltips to these icons so that when users hover over them, they see what the icons do.

The three icons at the bottom are not meant to be pressed. They are supposed to encourage the user to swipe the card to the right (if you recalled the passage correctly before opening the verse) or to the left (if you didn't remember it correctly).
If you would like to review the verses in the due list in series, tap the flashcard button at the bottom. The flashcard displays the verse's reference (and topic), and you are supposed to recall the passage.
These are your options:

Swipe the card up to skip it an move on to the next verse
Tap on the question mark to get a hint
Tap on the microphone to record your voice while you are reciting the passage
Tap on the card to view the passage and listen to the recording to check if you were correct.
Tap on the tiny checkmark icon at the bottom right to flip the card and reveal the passage line by line to check if you were correct.
