Good question! Getting an accurate verse count is trickier than it might seem:
- Verse spans in translations — Some Bibles merge verses (e.g., [3]... [4-6]... [7]...), so the range "1-7" might only contain 5 numbered markers
- Complex references — Partial verses, chapter-only references, and combinations like "1 John 4:16a, 18-19" make parsing unreliable
- Passages without verse numbers — Some users store text without explicit verse markers
- Non-verse content — The app supports flashcards for things like book order, which aren't verses at all
We could add a verse count field, but it would need to be user-maintained and easily forgotten or inaccurate.
That said, word count is tracked automatically and might serve as a meaningful measure of memorization volume — arguably more useful since a 3-verse passage can vary dramatically in length.
For a rough verse estimate, you could divide your memorized word count by the average verse length of your Bible translation (typically 20-25 words for English translations like ESV/NIV).
